kcalCaprese Skewers are a simple and elegant appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil on skewers, drizzled with balsamic glaze for a fresh and flavorful bite.
Ingredients
1 pint (about 2 cups) cherry or grape tomatoes
8 oz fresh mozzarella balls (like bocconcini or ciliegine)
Fresh basil leaves
Balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
Extra virgin olive oil (optional)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Toothpicks or small skewers
Directions
- Prepare the Ingredients:
Wash and dry the cherry tomatoes.
Drain the fresh mozzarella balls. If they’re large, you can cut them in half.
Rinse the fresh basil and gently pat the leaves dry. - Assemble the Skewers:
Take a toothpick or small skewer.
Start by threading one cherry tomato onto the skewer.
Fold a fresh basil leaf in half (if it’s large) and add it next.
Follow with one mozzarella ball.
Repeat until you’ve assembled as many skewers as you like. - Season:
Lay the skewers on a serving platter.
Drizzle lightly with balsamic glaze and a bit of extra virgin olive oil if desired.
Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. - Serve:
Serve the Caprese skewers immediately, or chill them in the fridge for up to an hour before serving. They’re best fresh! - Optional Add-Ons:
For a bit of crunch, you can add a small piece of toasted bread or crostini on the side.
A light sprinkle of crushed red pepper adds a nice kick if you like a little heat.
