Ingredients

  • 2 lbs russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and diced

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • ½ cup heavy cream (or milk)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional for extra flavor)

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Chopped chives for garnish (optional)

Directions

  • Peel and Dice the Potatoes
    Peel the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks.
    This ensures they cook evenly and mash smoothly.
  • Boil the Potatoes
    Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water.
    Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil.
    Boil for 15-20 minutes until fork-tender.
  • Drain and Mash
    Drain the potatoes well and return them to the pot.
    Mash with a potato masher or hand mixer until smooth.
  • Prepare the Creamy Mixture
    In a small saucepan, heat the butter, minced garlic (if using), and heavy cream until warm (but not boiling).
  • Mix Everything Together
    Pour the warm butter-cream mixture into the mashed potatoes.
    Stir until smooth and creamy.
  • Season and Serve
    Add salt and pepper to taste.
    Garnish with fresh chives for extra flavor.
